“Excellence in Education”
Mission
The Onslow County Learning Center will prepare students to become responsible leaders and globally competitive in the 21st Century.
Purpose
The Onslow County Learning Center (OCLC) will provide students with the opportunity to make positive choices so that they can be successful at their home-school and within their lives. OCLC will encourage students to be productive community members and to have a better outlook on life.
Two of our main concerns are in the areas of attendance and academic growth. We are striving to decrease student absences and to improve student growth on EOC’s, EOG’s and NC Finals. Our focus on students is uniquely designed to allow each student to receive distinctive and individual attention in order to address their identified need(s). With our smaller class size and highly qualified teachers we are able to give each student individualized attention to encourage academic success.
If the student has behavioral challenges, we have many initiatives to support positive choices such as reward activities, Advisor/Advisee, a daily point system, small groups, and an identified student advocate. We also have established a very solid and productive community partnership with the Magnanimous Mentors who meet weekly with our high school male students. This union works with all of our student population to promote good choices, to provide support and avenues for employment, and to encourage college entry. However, the most important lesson this group of men and women provided was a stable and positive role model for our students.
The staff and faculty of OCLC are comprised of dedicated, compassionate and skilled individuals. Our focus is to facilitate students in attaining and achieving measurable success through positive and relevant learning experiences. We are proud of what we do at OCLC and look forward to continuing to prepare our students for the challenges they will face as 21st century citizens.
