Referral to Onslow County Learning Center

The Onslow County Learning Center (OCLC) enrolls 6th - 12th grade students from the Onslow County School system. To attend the Onslow County Learning Center, a student must be referred by their traditional school campus.

Reason(s) for Referral to the Onslow County Learning Center:

  1. Academic
  2. Truancy
  3. School Board Violation
  4. Transition Issues
  5. Behavioral Concerns

How does a student return to their home school?

When a student is enrolled at OCLC, an individualized goal plan is established with input from the student, the parent, the referring school, and a member of the OCLC Administrative Team.  In order for the student to return back to their referring school, the student will need to meet their exit goals.

Exit Goals

Exit Goals focus on the following areas: Academic Goals, Behavior Goals, and Attendance Goals. Goals may be identified in other areas as agreed upon by participants. Exit Criteria refers to the minimum length of stay. The minimum length of stay is dependent upon referral factors and is generally dictated by the referring principal. It should be noted that once a student is enrolled in the alternative program, considerations are given to parents who request that their child be allowed to remain because of improved behavior or academic success once goals are achieved. However, the mandate to return a student to a traditional educational setting should always be the overshadowing and foundational goal.
